Is Your Child Addicted to Cell Phone?

This entry is part 1 of 2 in the series Children and smart phone addiction

Cell phone addiction is everywhere, among adults and children.

But how do children develop habit of using cell phones?

Scenario 1 :

Small children can be extremely clingy and they don’t let you do anything else. Parenting is tough and sometimes parents just need a break.

So we, parents give mobile to kids just to get some time off. What’s wrong in watching few videos? right?

But we don’t realize, children get highly stimulated from cell phones and lose interest in regular play. In long-term, this can cause serious troubles like not showing interest in studies.

Scenario 2:

Mirror neurons are highly active during childhood and children follow parents behaviour.

If we use mobile phone a lot, children are likely to use it too.

Scenario 3:

Above scenarios I managed successfully and kept Tejas away from cell phone in initial years. I was very proud of my achievement. Then Tejas started to go to school and this happened..

Peer pressure is huge on children. When I saw Tejas feeling left out, I researched a lot and gave him mobile phone. He said, he will use it only 1 hour a day and I believed. Big mistake again. Parenting is a constant battle.

To know what happened next and how I overcame this challenge, read my next blog, next week.
